Hong Kong's Immigration Department recorded a 35 percent increase in assistance requests from residents abroad during the first eight months of 2026 compared to the previous year. Director of Immigration Benson Kwok Joon-fung announced on Saturday that the department handled approximately 3,160 appeals for help between January and August. Kwok attributed this significant rise primarily to the ongoing military hostilities in the Middle East, which have impacted citizens traveling or residing in the region.
