The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has initiated an inquiry into the presence of armed civilians alongside police officers at a checkpoint in Albuera, Leyte. The probe was launched after a video of the September 2 encounter circulated on social media, raising public security concerns. In response, the Leyte Police Provincial Office relieved Albuera police chief Major Franklin Romeo Parangan and the checkpoint personnel from their posts pending an investigation. NBI Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc met with Albuera Mayor Rolan "Kerwin" Espinosa, who confirmed that one of the armed men belonged to his security team. Espinosa claimed his security was monitoring a suspicious vehicle containing police intelligence officers. The NBI aims to gather evidence to clarify the incident and its impact on local peace and order.
