Police in Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, arrested eight individuals following a failed attempt to rob a pawnshop on September 4. The incident was thwarted after a security alarm at the ML Lhuillier branch along Romulo Highway was triggered, prompting a citizen to alert the authorities. Responding officers discovered a hole dug from a drainage canal to the shop's entrance. During a pursuit, police apprehended five suspects inside the canal, recovering tools, explosives, a firearm, and suspected methamphetamine. Information from these suspects led to a subsequent operation in which three accomplices waiting in a nearby truck were also arrested. Officers seized additional explosives and illegal drugs from the second group. Tarlac Police Provincial Office director Colonel Harry Lorenzo III praised the quick public report and rapid police response that prevented the burglary.
