Taiwan’s primary opposition groups, the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), have failed to agree on a unified candidate for the mayoral election in Zhubei, the most populous city in Hsinchu County. Following unsuccessful negotiations, both political parties decided to field their own representatives. The KMT selected county councillor Wu Hsu-chih, while the TPP put forward its own candidate. This disagreement is expected to impact the upcoming local elections in November and could undermine the mutual trust required for a broader coalition in the 2028 general elections.
