The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has initiated a new maritime mission attempting to reach the Gaza Strip in October to challenge Israel's naval blockade. Two ships, Handala II and Kate, have begun their voyage across several European ports, including stops in Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland, Germany, and France, with further calls scheduled in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. The initiative brings together human rights advocates, medical personnel, journalists, and political representatives. Organizers are urging international governments to guarantee safe transit for the vessels and exert diplomatic pressure on Israel to permit unobstructed deliveries of food, water, and medicine into the enclave. The voyage follows previous Israeli interceptions of similar flotillas, with rights organizations documenting past mistreatment of detained participants. The mission highlights ongoing severe shortages of clean water, health infrastructure, and essential aid in Gaza despite a ceasefire reached in October 2025.
