Shiv Sena (UBT) has called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to implement a statewide ban on DJ sound systems during religious and cultural celebrations, citing significant health risks from noise pollution, including hearing damage and high blood pressure. The debate intensified after Pune activist Vidyanand Bapat was assaulted for campaigning against loud sound systems during Ganesh Chaturthi processions. A suspect in the assault has since been placed in police custody. While Fadnavis suggested resolving the issue through dialogue to build public consensus and encouraged traditional celebrations, lawmaker Sanjay Raut insisted that the state cabinet must take an immediate and binding decision. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities in Nagpur have already prohibited high-decibel sound systems during festive events to manage noise levels in residential areas.
