Eight 20-year-old engineering students from Tamil Nadu died late Friday night after their car crashed into a stationary lorry on National Highway 66 near Kaipamangalam in Kerala's Thrissur district. The collision occurred around 11:42 p.m. along a road diversion section undergoing construction work as the group travelled from Guruvayur toward Kodungallur. All victims were enrolled at the PSNA College of Engineering and Technology in Dindigul. Seven passengers died at the scene, while the eighth succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Emergency personnel and local residents had to cut open the severely mangled rented vehicle to extricate the victims. Preliminary police findings indicate the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel prior to the impact. The bodies were transferred to the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
