Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to speak at the 81st United Nations General Assembly General Debate during the afternoon session on September 26. The high-level debate, taking place from September 22 to 28, will be presided over by Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman. Following tradition, Brazil and the United States will open the session on September 22, while leaders from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan are scheduled to speak later in the week. The diplomatic gathering convenes amid major international tensions, including military conflict in the Middle East that has disrupted maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz and increased global commodity prices. The session also represents the final UNGA gathering for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres before his term ends in December, alongside planned high-level meetings addressing climate action, sea level rise, pandemic response, and nuclear disarmament.
