At least two soldiers died, seven went missing, and 81 people were injured following two successive explosions at a military base in Viacha, Bolivia. According to Defence Minister Ernesto Justiniano, the Friday afternoon blasts originated from an area where pyrotechnic material and black powder were stored. The initial blast was followed by a larger secondary detonation, though officials confirmed that military weaponry was not involved. The incident damaged nearby residences, breaking windows and scattering debris across the area, leading authorities to cut power and evacuate local residents to emergency shelters. President Rodrigo Paz ordered a transparent technical inquiry to investigate the causes and verify whether safety protocols were followed. Meanwhile, local authorities declared three days of mourning as emergency teams continue search operations for the missing soldiers.
