Thailand’s Department of Provincial Administration announced that an operating licence renewal for a Jewish cemetery in Chachoengsao province was denied following regulatory violations. Initially permitted for three years in 2021, the six-rai burial site in Bang Khla district faced opposition from roughly 60 local residents in 2023 over its close proximity to residences, a school, a hospital, and agricultural waterways. Subsequent official inspections revealed that the location breached ministerial buffer zone requirements, standing merely 187 metres from a public canal instead of the mandatory 400 metres, and only 3.6 metres from a public road. A local screening committee unanimously voted against extending the permit in 2024, and the Interior Ministry dismissed an appeal submitted past the statutory deadline. The provincial governor confirmed that no bodies remain at the location after the single previously interred individual was relocated.
