Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated he is open to reviewing proposals for an early general election following appeals from political figures across both the ruling coalition and the opposition. The calls for snap polls were recently raised by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, leader of Barisan Nasional, as well as Abdul Hadi Awang, head of the opposition party Parti Islam Se-Malaysia. The country's next nationwide vote is not officially mandated until February 2028. Anwar emphasized that any move to dissolve parliament would only proceed after comprehensive deliberations and formal submission to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar. For now, the prime minister reiterated that the unity government's primary focus remains on economic progress, public welfare initiatives, and combating corruption, while coalition partners affirmed their commitment to maintaining national political stability.
