Philippine Vice-President Sara Duterte has posted bail at a Manila court following the issuance of an arrest warrant over "grave threats" charges. The prosecution stems from comments she made last month, in which she claimed to have contracted an assassin to target President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife, and his cousin should she be killed first. Duterte, who voluntarily appeared in court to post a cash bond, has argued her statements were misunderstood and expressed fears of police harassment. The criminal charge, which carries a maximum six-month prison sentence, coincides with her ongoing Senate impeachment trial. Impeached by the House of Representatives in May on corruption allegations, Duterte faces removal from office and a lifetime ban from politics if convicted by the Senate, potentially ending her prospects for a 2028 presidential bid.
