A coalition of fifty-six American advocacy and civil rights organizations has petitioned Congress to eliminate a controversial provision from the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. The proposed measure, known as the United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative, would legally mandate collaborative weapons manufacturing, joint technology development, and data sharing in cyber warfare and artificial intelligence. Signatories, including Amnesty International USA, argue that deepening these military ties is unacceptable given current regional conflicts. Additionally, a policy brief warns that the integration could expose sensitive American capabilities to counterintelligence risks and obscure weapons transfers from public oversight. Although bipartisan efforts to strip the clause were blocked, critics warn the legislation would permanently bind future administrations to Israel's strategic interests.
