During its annual assembly, Malaysia's main Islamist opposition group, PAS, expressed readiness to restore relations with its historical rival, Umno. However, PAS indicated that any revived partnership would require a restructured hierarchy, reflecting its ambition to head the national government. This strategic realignment follows a successful collaboration in Negeri Sembilan, where joint efforts by both parties defeated Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s coalition. That outcome came shortly after Umno achieved a decisive victory over Pakatan Harapan in Johor, driving PAS to seek a dominant role in a potential conservative alliance.
