Police in Chirayinkeezhu, Kerala, have registered cases against Congress MLA Ramya Haridas and 15 local party workers following a physical confrontation. The dispute arose over social media comments concerning the presence of the legislator's personal assistant at a block panchayat meeting. Authorities acted on cross-complaints filed by both sides. Following Haridas's statement, charges were filed against the party workers under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Simultaneously, a separate complaint by a party member led to a case against the MLA. Video footage captured a verbal confrontation escalating into physical violence, during which Haridas sustained injuries requiring brief hospitalisation. Both factions have levelled counter-allegations regarding the initiation of the clash.
