Max Verstappen demonstrated his enduring skill at the Sepang International Circuit by securing the fastest time during the opening practice session for the 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix. Returning to the venue nine years after his 2017 victory, the Red Bull Racing driver completed his best lap in 1 minute 37.520 seconds under clear weather conditions. George Russell of Mercedes-AMG Petronas followed in second place, trailing by 0.383 seconds, while Red Bull's Isack Hadjar recorded the third-fastest time. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc took the fourth position, with championship leader Kimi Antonelli rounding out the top five. This event marks the return of Formula 1 racing to Malaysia after a nearly decade-long hiatus from the iconic circuit.
