The United Arab Emirates is scheduled to hold its debut international professional sumo tournament this Saturday, September 26, at the Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi. Organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism, the All-Star Sumo Competition will feature nine elite wrestlers hailing from Japan, Mongolia, and Egypt. These athletes, weighing between 140kg and 250kg, will engage in a series of 36 matches throughout the one-day event. The tournament has already reached full capacity, with all tickets sold out prior to the competition. According to event director Andrew Freund, the initiative aims to expand the global reach of sumo by introducing the traditional Japanese sport to a fresh audience within the region.
